ABOUT PIETER RADEMEYER GROUP

For 40 years we have offered an uninterrupted service to the public and will continue this.

This according to Pieter Rademeyer of Pieter Rademeyer Plumbers (Pty) Ltd as they celebrate 40 successful years in business this month.

The family-orientated business that started in a double garage in Pickering Street with family and friends as the client base, now boasts a fleet of 20 teams on the road and premises in Woodpecker Street in Cotswold. The house where the business was “born”, as well as the next-door properties which Rademeyer acquired, were demolished and developed into the Pickering Park Complex.

In 1972, Rademeyer started an apprenticeship with the Kotze brothers – Frikkie - and Theuns – who were legends in the plumbing industry in those days. “I always knew that I wanted to be a businessman as my whole family was involved in business. I often spent time with them and this helped me make up my mind to become a plumber,” Rademeyer said.

In 1976, he was able to start his own plumbing business as it is known today. Admitting that plumbing is hard work, Pieter attributes his work ethics to his parents who taught him that “you have got to work hard to get somewhere in life”. He recalls his first big contract with a well-known company. His business had to install 3 000 toilets in the Motherwell and New Brighton area. The number of employees grew and so did the contracts.

This also meant that for bigger jobs an excavator was needed and Pieter Rademeyer Plant Hire was established. This part of the business is now managed by plant manager Gerrie du Preez. “We saw a gap in the market with maintenance work as there was only one company in Port Elizabeth at the time specialising in plumbing maintenance. Through all these years, the plumbing business has [always] been our core business,” Rademeyer said. Apart from the plumbing business and plant hire, Rademeyer has also started Pieter Rademeyer Developers, which specialises in building houses and townhouse complexes. In 2006 Nicolene Gerber, who has been involved with Pieter Rademeyer Plumbers for more than 20 years now, and her husband, Hugo, became partners and have since been managing the Plumbing side of business. Rademeyer is still managing bigger contracts and gives advice where needed. However, he has shifted his attention to the development side of the business to concentrate on building townhouse complexes and retirement villages.

“During the past 40 years, Pieter Rademeyer Plumbers became a household name in Port Elizabeth due to competitive prices, hard work and good work ethics, but most importantly with many blessings from above, a healthy business was established,” Rademeyer said.
